Fixture Incentive Fund

Fixture Incentive Fund (FIF)

Fixture Incentive payments are offered to racecourses to ensure that the annual Fixture Criteria is achieved.  The payments encourage racecourses to stage fixtures on days which may be unattractive to racegoers, but which are vital to the generation of off-course betting turnover, and therefore levy income, and for providing opportunities for the horse population.

The total allocation to the 2020 Fixture Incentive Fund is £2m (2019: £2.3m).  The payment levels awarded to eligible fixtures are shown below; these levels flex according to changes in the Fixture List each year to match the available budget.

No Fixture Incentive payments are made to the Cheltenham Festival, on Bank Holidays, Saturdays (except for to AWT fixtures), during Easter or for evenings. The Flat Turf April cut off is fixed to the Friday after the Craven meeting, while the Jump March cut off is fixed to the Friday of the Cheltenham Festival.

It has also been agreed that there will be a phased reduction in Fixture Incentive payments to AWT fixtures over the next three years, with the payments reducing by a third per year in 2019 and 2020 before any adjustment to fit the available budget is made.

In contrast to General Prize Fund payments, which can only be used as prize money, racecourses may use Fixture Incentive payments for whatever purpose they wish.  As in previous years, payment will still be made to an eligible fixture if the fixture is abandoned.
