HBLB's Veterinary Advisory Committee Expressions of interest

The Horserace Betting Levy Board (HBLB) provides some £1.8m of funding annually for the advancement of veterinary science and education. It has appointed a Veterinary Advisory Committee (VAC) to advise it on its veterinary interests, with the aim to improve the health and welfare of the racing or breeding Thoroughbred horse.

The VAC is comprised of scientists and veterinary clinicians able to provide expertise throughout the scope of the veterinary investment. The VAC is currently planning to appoint four new members to fill vacancies arising over the next 18 months. The VAC is seeking both equine veterinary clinicians and scientists with the ability to:

• interpret and assess research applications across a range of clinical and scientific disciplines relevant to the horse;
• evaluate the relevance and impact of research proposals and outcomes on the Thoroughbred;
• translate scientific outcomes to inform communications with stakeholders;
• engage in additional responsibilities ranging across industry consultation, assessment and review of education awards and oversight of infectious disease policies and monitoring programmes.

The VAC usually meets in London twice a year, including one overnight stay. In addition, one or two half day consultation group meetings may be held in London, supplemented by telephone conferences as required. An honorarium and expenses are paid.

Expressions of interest are invited. For an informal discussion and further information please contact Annie Dodd, Grants Manager at HBLB, on annie.dodd@hblb.org.uk or 020 7333 0043 before 15th July 2014.
